It’s been far too long without a post on this blog, but will try to keep more up to date in future!
Gutsy has passed, Hardy has passed, and Intrepid is now the beast to work on. Also been moving away from default Ubuntu and working on Openbox and Xubuntu. In fact I have settled on Xubuntu 8.10 as my current environment since Ibex came out, and this has proven to be preferably to Gnome in many ways. Ubuntu-Freak’s multimedia guide is the mainstay of post installation improvements, the use of devilspie keeping control of windows, and the various hacks from the Xubuntu blogs have kept my system ticking along. For Openbox its worth visiting urukrama’s blog for full details on getting set up. Also tracked down another way to give windows folks access to linux shares, this time using sshfs. A great little program called dokan performs this trick. i have built up a nice set of Thunar custom actions to share too.
Need to post up in more detail on these things, plus add links, so watch this space
